Royal Caribbean honored your Smoky Mtn Bears by inviting them to attend the inaugural sailing of the Utopia of the Seas, July 19 through 22, 2024.  We can’t wait for you to share in the incredible experiences offered on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas.  This is by no means a complete review but we wanted to give you some of the highlights—including the jaw-dropping AquaTheater show and our unforgettable dining experience at the Chef’s Table.

Setting Sail on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas

The moment we stepped aboard Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Utopia of the Seas, we knew we were about to embark on an unforgettable journey. This floating marvel is packed with luxury, entertainment, and cutting-edge technology. The inaugural sailing was a true celebration—guests and crew alike were buzzing with excitement as we explored all that this incredible ship had to offer.

Utopia of the Seas features something for everyone, from adrenaline-pumping activities like ziplining and rock climbing to tranquil lounges and world-class dining. Two experiences that stood out for us were the AquaTheater show and the exclusive Chef’s Table dinner.

Utopia of the Seas, the latest addition to Royal Caribbean's fleet, proudly welcomed Meghan Trainor as its godmother during a spectacular ceremony. Onboard with her family, Trainor celebrated the ship's maiden voyage, enjoying the luxurious amenities and vibrant atmosphere that the cruise has to offer.

Embarkation Day

As we boarded the Utopia of the Seas, we eagerly booked our dining and show reservations for the short cruise ahead. For lunch on the first day, we indulged at Windjammer, the ship's buffet, where a delectable spread awaited us, featuring shrimp cocktail, succulent lobster tails, carving stations of roast beef and chicken, along with beloved favorites like hamburgers, chicken tenders, and much more.

The sail away party was a vibrant celebration, filled with lively music that resonated throughout all three pool areas of the Utopia of the Seas. Guests danced and mingled, creating an energetic atmosphere as we set sail on our unforgettable cruise adventure.

For tonight’s dinner, we enjoyed Giovanni's Italian Restaurant, which features a diverse menu of pasta and pizza dishes. The restaurant provides comfortable seating options both indoors and outdoors, making it a great choice for any dining preference. We did a sampling and let’s just say, it will not disappoint.

The AquaTheater Show: A Must-See Performance

One of the standout features of Utopia of the Seas is the AquaTheater. This outdoor amphitheater, located at the aft of the ship, brings the magic of water, light, and human performance together in a breathtaking way. We’ve been to many cruise shows, but this one was on another level!

The show combined high dives, synchronized swimming, and acrobatics, with performers seemingly defying gravity as they launched themselves into the air before plunging into the pool below. The lighting and music amplified the drama, making it one of the most captivating entertainment experiences we’ve ever seen. The AquaTheater show on Utopia of the Seas is truly one of the ship's top attractions, and if you're booking a cruise, be sure to add this to your itinerary—you won’t be disappointed.

Day Two

Hideaway Beach at Perfect Day at CocoCay

One of the highlights of our sailing was a visit to Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. This tropical paradise already has plenty to offer, but they’ve recently added a new adults-only area: Hideaway Beach. As soon as we arrived, we could feel the relaxed, carefree vibe, making it the perfect spot to unwind.

With private cabanas, a swim-up bar, and a pristine stretch of white-sand beach, Hideaway Beach is a serene escape from the excitement of the ship. We spent the day lounging by the water, sipping tropical cocktails, and taking in the incredible views of the crystal-clear Caribbean waters. The exclusivity of Hideaway Beach adds a luxurious touch to an already perfect day at CocoCay, and we highly recommend it to any adult travelers looking for a bit of peace and relaxation.

On day two, we decided to indulge in another specialty restaurant.  We chose Chops Grille for our dining experience. While the ambiance and menu were promising, we encountered a few hiccups during our visit. We ordered a specialty cocktail each, along with a bottle of Moët, but unfortunately, everything arrived warm. We promptly informed our server about the issue, and while they did their best to correct it, being the first sailing meant they didn't have bottles already chilled. They kept everything on ice, but it still wasn't as cool as we would have preferred. That said, the servers did all they could to correct it.

After dinner, we attended the All In Show, which was a fun experience. The best way to describe it would be a medley of pop hits from the 1950s to the present, presented against various backgrounds and scenery. The show was engaging and lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, making it a perfect post-dinner entertainment option. To wrap up the evening, we decided to order a nightcap from room service.  Service was surprisingly quick.  Overall, despite the minor setbacks, it was a lovely evening filled with good food and entertainment.

Day Three

For day three, we decided to try the main dining room for breakfast while docked in Nassau. Having visited the island several times before, we opted to spend our morning exploring the ship instead of venturing out. After breakfast, Sean took advantage of the Flowrider, the ship's surfing area, which was a thrilling comedy experience for all. We also enjoyed the various pool areas, taking the time to swim in each one and appreciate the different atmospheres they offered.

Dining in Style: The Chef’s Table Experience

The real treat that night was the Chef’s Table. For food lovers, the Chef’s Table on Utopia of the Seas is a must-try dining experience. It was a great post-AquaTheater event where we were treated to a multi-course gourmet meal at the Chef’s Table. This exclusive dining experience is intimate and personalized, with each dish carefully curated by the ship's top chef.

We enjoyed a five-star meal with dishes like succulent sea bass, seared filet mignon, and decadent desserts, all paired with expertly selected wines. The chef introduced each course with details about the ingredients and preparation, adding a personal touch that made the meal feel even more special. The Chef’s Table is perfect for cruisers who want to elevate their dining experience—this is definitely a reservation worth making on Utopia of the Seas!       

All Aboard the Royal Railway

In addition to the stunning onboard experiences, Royal Caribbean is introducing a new way to explore their private island destinations: the Royal Railway. This scenic railway will provide a fun and relaxing way for guests to see the best of CocoCay and other private island stops. Whether you're soaking up the views or snapping photos along the way, the Royal Railway promises to be an exciting new addition to Royal Caribbean's list of unique experiences.

We didn’t get to try the Royal Railway during this sailing, but we can’t wait to experience it on future cruises. If you love a leisurely adventure, keep this on your radar for your next Royal Caribbean vacation.

As if Utopia of the Seas wasn’t exciting enough, Royal Caribbean is already planning the debut of their next ship, Star of the Seas, in 2025!
